How to play
- A secret word is hidden in Morse code. Morse code writes each letter as dots and dashes: here a dot is a circle and a dash is a long bar.
- Look at the shapes of the secret letter. Find the same shapes on the chart, and tap that letter.
- The right letter fills in, and the next secret letter appears. If it isn’t the one, the button gives a little wobble: look again and try another.
- Tap Hear this letter to hear its beeps and see the light flash.
- When the whole word is done, you meet the animal and hear its sound.
Easy words have 3 letters, like cat and dog. Normal words have 4 or 5, like frog and horse. Each word you decode without a wrong tap earns a star.
Beep my name
Tap the letters of your name on the chart, then press Beep it! Your name plays in Morse code, the light flashes, and the dots and dashes appear as they sound. On phones that can, it buzzes too.

For parents and teachers
Decoding Morse code is matching shapes and patterns, then reading the word they spell. It’s good practice for letter recognition and early spelling, and children enjoy being let in on a secret code. The words are animal names from our Animal Sounds games, so each one ends with the animal’s picture and sound.
The chart above prints on one page, A4 or US Letter, in large black type: use Print chart. It’s handy for writing secret messages on paper, too.
The code is drawn as shapes in a single color. Every letter looks different by its shapes alone, so colors never give an answer away. Gentle sounds, the same setting as on the Animal Sounds games, leaves out the animals with big, loud sounds.
Questions
Is my child’s name saved?
No. A name typed in Beep my name stays on the screen only. It isn’t saved in the browser, it isn’t sent anywhere, and it’s cleared when you leave the page.
Is it safe for children?
The decoder has no ads, no chat, no sign-up and no tracking. Nothing your child does is sent anywhere: the stars from finished rounds are kept only in this browser.
Why can’t I hear anything?
Check that the volume is up. The sound starts after the first tap on the page, as browsers ask. On an iPhone, the sound plays with the silent switch on in recent versions of Safari; in older ones, turn the silent switch off.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. On a phone the game opens full screen when you press Play. The chart buttons are big enough for small fingers. On a computer, letters can be typed on the keyboard too.
